Alabama Hunting Lodge Accommodations

Alabama Hunting Lodge in 1951November 30, 1951, was the date of the first organized deer hunt on Westervelt Lodge property. On this crisp autumn morning, seventy-eight hunters met at the Ingram Spur around the Mule Barn. Six dogs were cast at different spots. The dogs were furnished and driven by citizens of Pickens County. The first deer taken was a 150-pound buck shot by Mr. V.M. Cooper of Aliceville. Two others were harvested that morning: a 150-pound buck by J.T. Burroughs and a trophy buck weighing 225 pounds with 8 points by Frank Prewitt.

From those very first moments, at Westervelt Lodge, it has always been about the experience. Our nationally recognized professional wildlife and forest management program has attained and preserved our tradition of providing an outstanding, natural hunting experience – a true challenge in a fair chase setting. Westervelt Lodge is one of the last large hunting plantations from the old south, with 10,000 acres of land sprawling along the scenic Tombigbee River in west Alabama. A trip to Westervelt Lodge is long remembered. Informally elegant accommodations and sumptuous Southern-style meals are combined with top-notch management and professional guides to create a backdrop for excellent whitetail deer hunting, turkey hunting or quail hunting and unobstructed relaxation.
